Logos in pencil or graphite are generally softer and more blend-able than pen & ink, which is also used for a black and white logo.  Technology now enables that softness to sharpen, darken, lighten, or further highlight.  It sometimes becomes hard to discern pencil from pen & ink logos when a darker and sharper image is required, but still should retain attributes of characteristic shadings of pencil.

With careful planning a pencil logo can also be converted to color.   Sharpening the original pencil logo and using the pencil drawing as a frame is the basis for the color version.
